Nondestructive Evaluation, Focused Ultrasound, Wave Propagation and Scattering
Surendra Beniwal is an Assistant Professor at the Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology, Patiala since August 2017. He holds B.E. degree in Civil Engineering (M.B.M. Engineering College, Jodhpur), M.Tech. degree in Civil Engineering (Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee), and a Ph.D. degree (Indian Institute of Technology Delhi) in Civil Engineering. He has also held the position of Assistant Professor at the Govt. College of Engineering and Technology, Bikaner for three and half years teaching Civil Engineering to the undergraduate students. Dr. Beniwal teaches courses on steel structures’ design and building construction at the undergraduate level.

Description Of Research Interests
Dr. Surendra Beniwal's research interests are in nondestructive evaluation, focused ultrasound, wave propagation and scattering, modeling of wave propagation in strongly heterogeneous media like concrete and subsurface imaging. The subsurface characteristics of concrete like media are mapped through the application of synthetic aperture focusing (SAFT) and reverse time migration (RTM) techniques using mainly the body waves, and associated ultrasonic signal processing. The subsurface mapping is developed to assist in identifying the defects, damages and bond condition of steel reinforcements in the medium and to give an overall picture of the subsurface. The newly developed interest are in theoretical multiscale modeling (starting from the properties on micro/nano scale) of concrete to evaluate the bulk elastic properties.
