Biography

Dr. Oberoi is presently Assistant Professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department at Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology Patiala, India. He received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Mechanical Engineering in 2006 and 2011 respectively, from the Punjab Technical University in India. He graduated from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) University, Melbourne, Australia in 2016 with PhD. in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering. He has more than 10 years of work experience that includes working in industry, teaching and research. While at RMIT University, from 2012-2016 he received fee exemption grant under the Commonwealth Government Research Trainee Scheme and PhD top-up scholarship of $20K from Victorian Brown Coal Innovation Australia. His research focus includes solid-state hydrogen storage, proton electrolyte membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs), materials for energy storage, heat exchangers, heat pipes and heat sinks.

He is currently supervising 1 PhD student and 1 Masters of Engg. Student. He has published around 30 papers in various journals and conference proceedings. Besides, he has filed six patents and published one book entitled ‘Heat transfer through perforated heat sink-a theoretical and experimental study’ by Lambert Academic Publishers and 2 book chapters.

  1. Elsevier Foundation’s Green and Chemistry Challenge 2016

    My research proposal entitled ‘Electrochemical storage of hydrogen in activated charcoal’ got selected as one of the TOP-5 proposals from 680 proposal received globally in Elsevier Foundation’s Green and Sustainable Chemistry Challenge 2016. I was invited to Berlin, Germany by Elsevier Foundation to give presentation and compete for first position in May 2017.

  2. International Hackathon 2017 Winner organised by UN Influx Trust

    My project entitled ‘Paperless erasable magnetic Braille slate’ won the first prize in an International Hackathon organised by UN Influx Trust and our team has been invited to UN Headquarters, New York in May 2017 for pitching our idea.

  3. Research Excellence Award from Chitkara University

    Received an award of excellence for my contribution towards research and publishing research papers in SCI/Scopus indexed journals in May 2017 from Chitkara University Punjab, India. I was awarded with INR 1,00,000/- for my research lab set-up.

  4. Australian commonwealth government R.T.S (Research Trainee Scheme)

    Successfully gained Commonwealth government’s R.T.S. position for 4 years to pursue PhD at RMIT University, Melbourne from January 2012 to January 2016. It is a complete fee waiver scholarship for my entire duration of the candidature at RMIT University, Australia.

  5. Brown Coal Innovation Australia (BCIA) Top-up Scholarship

    Successfully gained the one and only available in Australia, BCIA’s top-up scholarship worth of $20,000 for two years – from January 2014 to December 2015.

  6. International Travel Grant by School of Graduate Research, RMIT University, Australia

    Successfully received international travel grant of $2000.00 for two times (in year 2013 and 2014) to present my research paper in international conferences in 2013 at Bangkok, Thailand and in 2014 at Tokyo, Japan.
