Dr. Neetu Singh is Associate Professor in Chemical Engineering Department of Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology, Patiala Punjab, India. She was appointed to Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology in 2013. Prior, she has worked as faculty member at UIET, CSJM University, Kanpur, UP, India. Neetu Singh has completed her Ph.D. in chemical engineering from UP Technical University Lucknow, India, in December 2012. She did her B.Tech in Chemical Engineering from HBTI, Kanpur, UP, India, in June 2002. She has guided 4 master’s thesis and currently, 4 Ph.D. students are working under her guidance in the field of separation processes and wastewater treatment. She has published many peer-reviewed international publications and has 4 book chapters to her credit. Number of citations for her publications stands at 160, according to google scholar.

This work is about converting the CO2 (a well known greenhouse gas) selectively into ethanol instead of its capture and geological sequestration. To overcome the problem of use of noble or expensive materials as electrocatalyst, multiple liquid products and low efficiency, this research proposal envisages the development of a Cu-based nanostructured catalyst by electronucleation of Cu nanoparticles from CuSOâ‚„ solution onto the nitrogen enriched carbons. The objective of this project is to develop a novel class of nanostructured copper electroctalaysts for efficient reduction of carbon dioxide to ethanol with high activity, selectivity and durability at ambient temperature and pressure using different electrolytes.
Acetonitrile dehydration by using salts/organic compounds

This study is about exploring novel compounds for acetonitrile dehydration. The separation of high purity acetonitrile from its aqueous solution is of particular interest to industrial chemists and process engineers due to its versatile applications. It is an excellent solvent as well as starting material for the synthesis of organic and inorganic chemicals, other than this it also finds applications in liquid chromatography and electrochemistry, as well as in the enhancement of catalytic efficiency of enzymes. Crude acetonitrile typically contains 43.6% water and is obtained as a co-product in the production of acrylnitrile, a nitrile manufactured on a large scale as an important monomer for the production of plastics. Similar to other water-miscible organic solvents, acetonitrile forms a constant boiling mixture (or azeotrope) with water, which prevents the production of pure acetonitrile by conventional distillation methods. It exhibits a minimum boiling azeotrope with water with a mass fraction for acetonitrile near to 0.822 at 76.5 °C temperature and atmospheric pressure. To obtain ACN with a purity of > 82.2 % by mass, is a challenge. The objectives are to get a more suitable and novel compounds which can to replace these traditional solvents to overcome the drawbacks associated with earlier used solvents.
