Biography

Parimita Roy is presently working as Assistant Professor of Mathematics, at Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology, Patiala. She completed her PhD from Indian Institute of Technology (ISM), Dhanbad. Her area of research is Applied Mathematics. Parimita Roy is a Principal investigator of SERB sponsored Major Research project. She reviewed many research papers and attended many national and international conferences. She has taught courses like Engineering Mathematics and Research methodology at UG and PG Level.

Project Title "Extinction risk analysis: An approach to preserve endangered species"

Period: Ongoing

Summary

The goal of this project is to implement a framework for species extinction risk prediction that is robust to temporal changes, being validated on historical information, and able to anticipate future declines. Mathematical models which are both structurally and dynamically complex will be designed and the following will be answered

  • Which variables contribute to species decline and extinction?
  • What effect climate have on extinction?
  • When to vaccinate the species so that the process is cost effective?
  • How past changes to the drivers of extinction risk can be used to inform future extinction risk predictions?

Description of Research Interests:

Parimita Roy's research interests are in are mathematical modeling, mathematical biology and non- linear dynamics. At present, she is working on “Extinction risk analysis for endangered species,” with the aim of developing a framework for extinction risk prediction, which is robust to temporal changes. Her investigations are based on historical information, and will be able to anticipate future declines. She is interested in designing detailed mathematical models with the help of ecologist to this effect.
