Biography

Maneek Kumar is a Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology, Patiala and is also presently holding the position of Dean of Student Affairs, since 2014 and has a teaching experience of more than 24 years. He joined the Department in 1993 as a Lecturer in Civil Engineering. He completed his Masters of Engineering and Ph.D. in Structural Engineering from Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology in 1993 and 2003, respectively. He has guided 58 ME thesis and 9 Ph.D. students. Maneek Kumar has also published more than 35 research papers in various reputed journal. He has been actively involved in major consultancy project including structure design of commercial complex, hostels and judicial court complex. Maneek Kumar has also completed many funded research projects sponsored by AICTE, DAE and UGC. His research interests include reliability based design of structural elements, cement based materials, high performance concrete, ultra-high performance concrete and retrofitting and rehabilitation.

International Space Settlement Competition

Teacher Advisor of the winning team of students, which participated as the only foreign team in the top eight teams in this year's Space Settlement Design contest organized under the aegis of NASA and Boeing by the American Aeronautical and Astronautic Society at USA.

The team made presentations and at the Kennedy Space Centre, Florida, USA from July 17 – 19, 2004.

  • Gave an expert talk to the participants of the International Space Settlement Design Competition organized under the aegis of NASA and Boeing by the American Aeronautical and Astronautic Society at USA in July 2004 at the Kennedy Space Centre, Florida
  • Was on the Judges panel for the Asian Regional Space Settlement Design Competition, held from December 19 to 22, 2004 at American Centre, New Delhi
  • Nominated as a member of the State Level Expert Committee set up by the Government of Punjab in October 2007 for a period of three years.

Description of Research Interests

Dr. Maneek Kumar research interests are in reliability based design of structure elements, ultra-high performance fibre reinforced concrete. He is also working on the application of high performance concrete in retrofitting and rehabilitation of structures.
