School of Chemistry and Biochemistry was established as a separate body in 2002 with an objective to promote teaching and research in chemical sciences. The school offers M.Sc. (Chemistry) and Ph.D. degrees besides teaching chemistry to B.Tech and M.Tech students. The post graduate programme in chemistry was started in 2007 with an intake of 20 students each year.

The faculty at the school is exceptionally qualified, and motivated with a strong commitment to teaching and research. All faculty members hold a PhD degree in chemistry with some of them having postdoctoral experience from reputed institutes in India or abroad. It has a number of research projects sponsored by Department of Science and Technology, Defence Research Development Organisation, University Grant Commission and Council of Scientific and Industrial Research.  The school also encourages strong link with industries.
