In the past worked on effect of
herbicides on cyanobacteria that forms an integral part of rice cultivation and
on the plasmid profile and metal tolerance of different cyanobacteria. While
studying cell cycle mutants and plasmid biology of coryneform bacteria
developed a new shuttle vector for gene cloning in Corynebacterium glutamicum. Developed protocols for mass
production of microbial inoculants (nitrogen fixer and phosphate solubilizer)
and green alga Dunaliella sp. for b-carotene.
Currently working
with microbial systems a) for their beneficial application in soil for improving
soil fertility and crop productivity on degraded land using molecular
markers/biosensors to assess their survival and studying soil-plant-microbe
interaction, b) for metal removal and textile dye decolorization. The thrust is
on developing innovative strategies for utilization and value addition of industrial fly ash for soil
amendment in forestry and solid waste biomass as metal sorbent for clean up
of heavy metal containing industrial effluents.
