Patiala: Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology (TIET) hosted an Industry Roundtable on "Future of Healthcare Beyond Hospitals: MedTech, AI, Digital Care & Building the Next-Generation Healthcare Workforce," bringing together leaders from healthcare, MedTech and academia to discuss the future of healthcare education and workforce development.

The roundtable explored how higher education can better prepare graduates for a rapidly evolving healthcare ecosystem driven by artificial intelligence, digital care and emerging technologies. Key discussions emphasized the need for agile regulatory frameworks to keep pace with innovation and highlighted AI's role as an enabler that strengthens healthcare delivery while preserving human expertise and empathy.

Participants also underscored the importance of developing "T-shaped" professionals with strong technical skills in AI and data science, complemented by domain knowledge, ethical awareness, regulatory understanding and communication skills. The deliberations further stressed the need for stronger industry-academia collaboration through co-created curricula, experiential learning, internships and applied research.

Reflecting these priorities, TIET continues to advance AI-integrated curricula, project-based learning, Capstone Projects and strategic industry partnerships to equip students with interdisciplinary skills for the healthcare sector of tomorrow.

The roundtable concluded with a fruitful exchange of ideas between faculty members and industry experts, reaffirming TIET's commitment to fostering meaningful collaborations that bridge academia and industry while preparing future-ready healthcare professionals.
